To compile our list of America’s Most Expensive Homes For Sale we scoured listings on Realtor.com, Trulia, Zillow and Streeteasy, and we contacted high-end real estate agencies across the country. We identified at least 60 available homes listed at $50 million or more, including 11 with confirmed asking prices of $100 million or more featured here.
Gemini | Manalapan, FL| $195M: Owned by the Ziff family, this 16-acre compound boasts a 62,200 square-foot mansion. The listing describes “a park-like botanical oasis,” with 1,500 species of tropical plants. Inside hundreds of flowers hang along Orchid Alley. Other amenities include: two golf greens, a web of treehouses any kid would envy and a furnished tunnel connecting the Ocean-front main house to guest cottages along the Intracoastal.

Le Palais Royal | Hillsboro Beach, FL| $159M: Features $7M of gold leaf, a 120-year-old Austrian chandelier and the first ever IMAX home theater. Developer Joseph Leone says it is designed to last like old European palaces. Nonetheless, the owner of this incomplete manse gave up, supposedly to sail the world on his yacht. Nearing two-years on the market, the price was recently raised by $20M with added acreage and plans for an ice rink.
301 N Carolwood Drive | Los Angeles, CA| $150M: The priciest new construction to hit the market this year is a contemporary on the site of Barbara Streisand’s old Mon Rêve estate. (The most expensive existing home was The Playboy Mansion, which was listed for $200M in January and sold for about half that in June.) The home is new but its location is storied, Carolwood has been home to Walt Disney, Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger.

Briar Patch | East Hampton, NY | $140M: This 11-acre estate abuts a quarter-mile of East Hampton’s Georgica Pond. The main house was originally built in 1931 and recently renovated by star architect Peter Marino, best known for his designs of luxury stores like Louis Vuitton, Dior and Chanel. This Georgian Revival has been owned by jus three-families in its 85-years and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

1187 N Hillcrest Road| Beverly Hills, CA | $135M: Views from this seven bedroom villa include downtown Los Angeles and canyons around the city. Opulently decorated interiors include gold leaf crown moldings, hand woven carpets and $2.5M worth of Baccarat chandeliers. There is a ballroom, a media room and a motor court that can accommodate 20 cars.

520 Park Avenue | New York, NY | $130M: In recent year New York has seen an influx of ultra-tall, ultra-luxury buildings. Currently under construction is 520 Park Avenue, which will have 33 apartments and an average unit price of $38 million. The most expensive will be a 12,400 square-foot penthouse comprising the 52nd through 54th floors.

Rancho San Carlos | Montecito, CA| $125M: Built in 1931, this sprawling estate is on the market for the first time. Among the charming quirks of the home is a hidden replica of an English pub and lush central court yard. Ten residential cottages dot the property. The 100 of 237 acres grow lemons, avocados, oranges and limes. The estate is the priciest ever listed in Montecito, a retreat for the wealthy in the mountains above Santa Barbara.

834 Fifth Avenue | New York, NY| $120M: Two floors of this pre-war building (NYC for properties constructed before WWII) are for sale for the first time in three decades. The apartment has 12.5-foot ceilings, original moldings and views of Central Park. If this old world abode achieves asking price it will be the most expensive ever sold in NYC. The current record is $100.5M for the penthouse at One57, a 90 story high-rise that opened in 2014.

Neverland Ranch | Los Olivos, CA | $100M (tie): The most infamous home on the market is Michael Jackson’s former haunt, now dubbed Sycamore Valley Ranch. Colony Capital, which took a stake in the property in 2008, has renovated. The pop star’s amusement park and exotic animals are gone. Some 2,700 acres and 22 structures remain, including the main house built in 1982, guesthouses and several places to keep animals.

The Estate at Kings Point | Great Neck, NY | $100M (tie): Eight-acres on the Long Island Sound afford sweeping views of the Manhattan and storied ties to The Great Gatsby. The property has three residences–totaling 60,000 square feet. In addition to standard amenities like pools and gyms, this estate has a bowling alley, a shooting gallery and even a casino. Smarthome tech allows globe-trotting owners to maintain the home from anywhere.

South Shore Estate | Martha’s Vineyard, MA |$100M (tie):The ultimate in privacy, this 312-acre estate on the Atlantic is surrounded by conservation. (Already Martha’s Vineyard is only accessible by boat or air.) All that land houses the main residence and a small beach house, but the listing suggests starting from scratch, touting: “The flexibility to create an impressive oceanfront escape hidden from the world.”
