Harley-Davidson to Start Making Bikes in India

Will export to Europe and Southeast Asia from Indian base

Harley-Davidson, the iconic U.S. bike maker, will soon start making its motorcyles in India, Indian news agency PTI reports.

The company recently unveiled two new models in Milan, the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and Street 500, and will build these new models in India from next year, exporting them to European and Southeast Asian markets.

“We are excited about the potential of the Indian market,” Harley-Davidson Motor Co. president and COO Matthew Levatich told PTI.

With local fabrication of fuel tanks and fenders, the company, which already has a assembly unit in Haryana in northern India, will move up to almost full scale Indian manufacturing.
