He may not be a flash in the pan.
Against all odds, businessman-turned-candidate Donald Trump is continuing to put distance between himself and the competition in the latest poll for the Republican presidential nomination, reports CNN.
The most recent polling data from the news outlet puts Trump’s support among Republican voters at 24%, more than double that of his closest rival, currently Jeb Bush at 11%. Fellow non-politician Carly Fiorina, formerly the head of Hewlett-Packard, is coming in at 5%, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is polling at 9%.
Trump has made major hay with the issue of illegal immigration. Earlier this week he released a detailed position paper of his plans to attack the issue, calling for the deportation of illegal immigrants, the building of a security fence along the southern border of the U.S., among other ideas.
In addition to leading the national polls, Trump is currently leading in both the key early caucus/primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
