Although Black Friday weekend, the real official kickoff to the annual shop-a-thon, doesn’t start until Thursday, the nation’s biggest chains already have a read on the hot-selling gifts this holiday season.
Retailers ranging from Walmart to J.C. Penney, Macy’s and Toys “R” Us shared with Forbes what’s ringing up registers at their stores.

1. Walmart
The Dancing Olaf from Disney’s hit movie Frozen, exclusive to Walmart, $32.88, is a hit at the chain.
And the Frozen Friends Collection for $39.97, also only at Walmart, is heating up sales. Walmart is offering more than 700 Frozen themed items — more than any other retailer, a company spokeswoman told Forbes.
2. J.C. Penney
Outerwear has been a hot-ticket at J.C. Penney, the company said, such as these puffer vests from the retailer’s Arizona brand for a sale price of $19.99, and a Black Friday price of $12.99.

These women’s booties from Penney’s a.n.a. brand are also ringing up registers at the chain. Current sale price is $41.99, Black Friday door buster price, $29.99.
3. Kohl’s
A Kohl’s exclusive, this Frozen World Of Creativity Kit, with over 1,000 items related to the movie, including stickers and stamps featuring Frozen characters, has been selling robustly at the department store, the company said.
This Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity & Sleep Wristband, $99.99, which tracks wearer’s steps, distance, calories burned and active minutes, showing their progress with LED lights, is another popular item at Kohl’s this holiday season.
4. Macy’s
Popular gift items at Macy’s include: Charter Club Cashmere Zip Hoodies, $169 to $179; Tommy Hilfiger Packable Down Coat (men’s), $195 to $225; Calvin Klein Performance Fleece (women’s) $59; Women’s Rollerballs + Mens TravelSprays, $19 to $25; and Martha Stewart Collection Flannel Top Of Bed And Sheet Sets, $60 to $80, sheets, $160 duvet.
5. Toys “R” Us
Toys “R” Us shoppers are scooping up Little Live Pets Bird Cage Love Birds Double Pack from Moose Toys, $34.99. The interactive lovebirds respond to noise and touch by chirping away.
Also selling robustly at Toys”R” Us is its exclusive, Zoomer Dino Onyx, $79.99. The animatronic, prehistoric pal from Spin Master allows children to teach the toy different tricks and follows voice-activated commands.
6. PetSmart
At PetSmart, the Frozen Sven Dog Toy, $8.99; Frozen Olaf Dog Toy, $8.99; Bret Michaels Pets Rock Bears Ugly Sweater, $11.99; and Bret Michaels Pets Rock Gingerbread Ugly Sweater, $11.99, are four of the top-selling gifts at the pet chain this holiday season, said a company spokeswoman.
7. Big Lots
At Big Lots, holiday decor is selling well. Items popular with Big Lots shoppers thus far are the five-foot Glittering Snowman with 200 mini lights, $59.99, and the 7.5-foot All Cashmere Christmas Tree with ultra-plush, soft needles and a light texture for $180.
At Best Buy, the iPad Air, $599.99, regular price, and $499.99 for the Black Friday price, is a popular seller this season. Other hits include the $199.99 Panasonic50-inch LED HDTV, and the Samsung 55-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, $899.99. This holiday, Best Buy is teaming up with mobile couponing app Ibotta to offer actual cash back and additional savings on top of Black Friday savings.
