A win for the big guys.
This will have massive ramifications for how all companies operate in the future.
The FCC proposal says companies can pay for access for faster connections with internet service providers. So, a company like Netflix can pay for better speed from Comcast.
This means that the bigger, better established companies that can afford to get better speeds for their services, will have an advantage over smaller startups may not be able to afford to pay for a faster connection.
Previously, an internet service provider was supposed to treat all web services the same. Netflix's speed should have been the same as some tiny company. Now, Netflix, or ABC, or CBS, or whoever, can pay to get better service.
The FCC's rules are not set in stone, yet. The final rules become set at the end of the year, and there is still a chance for the public to influence the ruling.
The tech community has been up in arms about this decision, so we'll see if it can organize itself and stop the rule from happening.
