Google product marketing manager Krista Seiden was on her way from San Francisco to Phoenix yesterday when she tweeted, "Hmm, seems my life has revolved around airports recently."
She took some of the most dramatic early images of the crash, which she gave us permission to use.
Here are her tweets and images, as they happened.
Seiden was waiting for her flight to Phoenix when she looked out the window. She tweeted: "Omg a plane just crashed at SFO on landing as I’m boarding my plane." She later added, "@9NEWS @PKGM yes. Plane came down and hit on its belly, immediately enveloped on smoke. Pic taken ~15 sec after crash"
"People being evacuated via the emergency slides at the plane #crash at #SFO."
"Breaking news update: smoke appears to be getting worse, lots of emergency personal at site #SFO #planecrash." She also tweeted, " Don’t know airline or plane size yet, but definitely a commercial jet. Lots of smoke. Emergency evac slides down #SFO"
"#Breaking news: #SFO shut down indefinitely due to commercial #planecrash"
"As the smoke lifts a bit there is no tail in sight… #planecrash #SFO #breaking 777 Asiana Air from Taipei (supposedly"
"Smoke is all clear at the crash site now. No news on the safety of the people on the plane. #SFO #planecrash"
Eventually, her flight to Phoenix took off: "Not gonna lie, a bit freaked out before landing just now at Sky Harbor Airport in PHX. Thankfully was a safe landing!"
But she still had one more flight to make: " Happy to be on the ground in Flagstaff (my final destination today). Bit of a rough landing, definitely made me jump."
