Twitter's Jack Dorsey To Join Disney Board Of Directors

Disney will be welcoming a new tech savvy Mouseketeer to its ranks. The Walt Disney DIS +1.22%Company today announced that Twitter founder and chairmanJack Dorsey has been elected to its board of directors.
“The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers,” said Disney CEO Robert Iger in a statement announcing Dorsey’s election.
Iger similarly noted a commitment to technology in letter to shareholders in the company’s most recent annual report, “Technology remains one of our key priorities because it is transforming virtually every part of our business,” he wrote. “As consumers change the way they use media and interact with the world around them, they create even more opportunities for us to connect and engage them in new ways.” In 2012 the company relaunched disney.com and launch popular mobile games. In 2013 there was a focus on video games.

Dorsey, who is also CEO of payment processing company square, will not be the first big tech name to join Disney’s mouse-eared ranks. Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandderg joined Disney’s board in in 2010. Other notable board members include Potbelly’s CEO Aylwin Lewis and John Chen, Blackberry’s interim CEO.
