Sempra 2012 international capex to hit US$240mn

By David Casallas / Business News Americas
Sempra International's wind project and LPG terminal in Mexico and hydroelectric project in Peru will drive the company's capex and investment plans for the next five years, announced George Liparidis, CEO of the Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE) subsidiary.
The unit's capex and investment outlook for this year reaches US$240mn, US$180mn-230mn in 2013 and US$110mn-160mn in 2014-16.
Sempra International's portfolio comprises South American power distributors Chilquinta (Chile) and Luz del Sur (Peru); and Mexican assets that include LNG, power generation, natural gas and propane pipelines, and natural gas distribution.
Liparidis said other opportunities include the acquisition of smaller power distributors in Chile; greenfield generation projects in the country, in particular renewables due to high energy prices as a result of diesel and LNG-fired plants; and transmission infrastructure.
Mexican plans include greenfield natural gas pipelines in the country's northwest; projects through the state oil company Pemex JV; and Costa Azul gas exports to Asia.
And in Peru, Sempra International is mulling a second plant at the 98MW Santa Teresa hydro under construction, and other hydro and gas-fired generation projects.
Sempra International's earnings outlook for this year is US$305mn-330mn, US$320mn-$345mn in 2013 and US$425mn-455mn in 2016.
